Sociological Initiatives Foundation: Participatory Action Research Projects

Award: $15,000-$20,000

The Sociological Initiatives Foundation supports social change by linking research to social action. It funds research projects that investigate laws, policies, institutions, regulations, and normative practices that may limit equality in the U.S. It prioritizes projects that address racism, xenophobia, classism, gender bias, exploitation, or the violation of human rights and freedoms. It also supports research that furthers language learning and behavior and its intersection with social and policy questions.

Award: $75,000

The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. American Cancer Society: Research Professor Grants

Award: $400,000 over 5 years

ACS Professor awards are primarily honorific awards for individuals who have made seminal contributions in cancer research. Applicants must be at the rank of full professor and have made, and will likely continue to make, impactful contributions to change the direction of cancer research. These notable cancer research achievements could have been fundamental, preclinical, clinical, psychosocial, behavioral, health policy and/or epidemiologic in focus. American Chemical Society: Petroleum Research Fund

Award: $110,000 over 2 years

The Petroleum Research Fund is an endowed fund, managed by the American Chemical Society that supports fundamental research directly related to petroleum or fossil fuels at nonprofit institutions (generally colleges and universities) in the United States and other countries. ACS Petroleum Research Fund (ACS PRF) grants are intended as seed money, to enable an investigator to initiate a new research direction. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: Linked Standard Research Innovation Grants

Award: Up to $450,000 over 2 years

Grants awarded to investigators at any level performing research involving two or more unique sites with each site contributing unique expertise, as well as data collection.

This grant mechanism is designed to encourage implementation of a common grant protocol at two or more sites. The idea of the linked grant is that multiple sites are partners, and the study could not be done without expertise from both sites working together on many if not all aspects of the study, above and beyond just doing the same study at both sites or having a study at one site with experts serving as consultants.

Brain Research Foundation: Seed Grant Program LIMITED

Award: $100,000 over 2 years

The Seed Grant Program provides provide start-up monies for new research projects, especially those undertaken by junior faculty, in the field of neuroscience that will likely lead to extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other outside funding sources. BRF Seed Grant awards are not intended to supplement existing grants. To be eligible, PI must be a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor at an invited US academic institution, working in the area of studies of brain function. This includes molecular and clinical neuroscience as well as studies of neural, sensory, motor, cognitive, behavioral and emotional functioning in health and disease. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should present a new research project that will generate pilot data that will lead to RO1 funding or a comparable outside grant.  Applicants at the Associate Professor level should present a project pursuing new research directions. A new technique is not considered a new direction unless it pertains to a different area of study. Grants are not to be used for bridge funding between grants.

Parkinson’s Foundation: Impact Awards

Award: $200,000

The science underlying the Parkinson's Foundation Impact Award projects should be "outside the box" with the goal of bringing new light to the biology of Parkinson’s disease (PD), a new approach to PD research, or testing a truly novel therapeutic idea. Projects should be based on groundbreaking or unconventional ideas that are unlikely to be funded through more traditional funding mechanisms. Our goal is to provide the support that will enable researchers to test new ideas with an impact on the PD community and generate compelling results that will facilitate continued investment from the Parkinson’s Foundation and other funders. Simons Foundation: Simons Collaboration in Mathematics and the Physical Sciences

Award: Maximum of $2,000,000 per year for 4 years

The aim of the Simons Collaborations in Mathematics and the Physical Sciences (MPS) program is to stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science. The questions addressed by the collaboration may be concrete or conceptual, but there should be little doubt that answering them would constitute a major scientific milestone. The project should involve outstanding researchers with a range of career stages. Excellence of the scientific leadership is one of the main criteria in the selection process. The project should be organized and managed in a manner engendering a high level of collaboration.

Russell Sage Foundation: Sheldon Danziger Pipeline Grants

Award: Up to $65,000

Launched in 2020, the Pipeline Grants, initially co-funded with the Economic Mobility and Opportunity program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, support early-career scholars (Assistant Professors, Lecturers, and Adjunct Professors) and promotes diversity in the social sciences. They were renamed the Sheldon Danziger Pipeline Grants in 2025.

Since 2020, four rounds of the competition have funded 77 early-career scholars from colleges and universities across the United States. Pipeline grantees are paired with mentors who offer advice on their projects and career development. The competition funds innovative research on economic mobility and access to opportunity in the United States. We are particularly interested in research focused on structural barriers to economic mobility and how individuals, communities and state entities understand, navigate and challenge systemic inequalities. Early-career faculty who have not previously received research support or a visiting fellowship from RSF are eligible to apply.

American Chemical Society: Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award

Award: $5,000 and an unrestricted $40,000 research grant

The American Chemical Society Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in organic chemistry. Ten Arthur C. Cope Scholars will be named annually in three categories: two who have less than ten years of experience since their terminal degree will receive the Arthur C. Cope Early Career Scholars Award; four who have 10 to 25 years of experience since their terminal degree will receive the Arthur C. Cope Mid Career Scholars Award; and four who have 25 plus years of experience since their terminal degree will receive the Arthur C. Cope Late Career Scholars Award.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: Early Career Researcher Innovation Grants

Award: Up to $140,000 over 2 years

The Early Career Research Grant is designed to assist new researchers to obtain the advice, guidance and supervision of an established mentor in a selected area of suicide research. These grants are awarded for a two-year period and are awarded to investigators with an academic rank no higher than assistant professor. This grant is designed for investigators who have completed doctoral studies, although high quality applications from pre-doctoral applicants will be considered. The Early Career Research Grant provides an annual nontransferable fee of $7,000 to the mentor, who serves as an advisor to the applicant.

Award: Up to $125,000 over 2 years

Standard Research Grants are for a two-year period, for investigators at any academic rank. Although prior research on suicide is not required, applicants are expected to show evidence of prior research or research training in a related field. These grants are intended to fund new directions and initiatives in suicide research rather than to supplement the applicant's existing research and junior investigators.

Cancer Research Institute: Technology Impact Award

Award: Up to $300,000

The Cancer Research Institute Technology Impact Award provides seed funding of up to $300,000 to address the gap between technology development and clinical application of cancer immunotherapies. These grants aim to encourage collaboration between technology developers and clinical cancer immunologists and to generate the proof-of-principle of a novel platform technology in bioinformatics, ex vivo or in silico modeling systems, immunological or tumor profiling instrumentation, methods, reagents and assays, or other relevant technologies that can enable clinician scientists to generate deeper insights into the mechanisms of action of effective or ineffective cancer immunotherapies.

Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Program in China Studies

Award: Up to $45,000

The Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Program in China Studies seeks to maintain the vitality of China Studies in North America through fellowships for scholars early in their careers. Studies on and in China have developed over the last 30 years in the United States and Canada into a robust field, but current conditions pose daunting problems, especially for scholars just after the dissertation. Early Career Fellowships (formerly “postdoctoral fellowships”), support pre-tenure scholars in the humanities and the humanities-related social sciences who are preparing their PhD dissertations for publication, or who are embarking on new research projects. Early Career fellowships support research and writing with a priority given to proposals based on the applicant's research in China. Research in Hong Kong, Macau, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Taiwan is eligible. Research may also be conducted on Chinese culture and society outside these areas, as required by the research plan. However, diaspora studies are not eligible.

U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation: Start-Up Research Grant

Award: $90,000

The Start-Up Grant Program is meant to help newly appointed researchers who are beginning their independent research careers and may not yet have initial results to substantiate their application. Grants are for two years, in order to enable the grantees to submit a standard application to the next competition in their area of research. It is implemented within the framework of the regular BSF Research Grants program, i.e., it must exhibit scientific excellence, have a strong element of cooperation between Israeli and American scientists, and fall within the areas of research supported in that year by the BSF.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease

Award: $505,000 over five years

The Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease (PATH) program provides opportunities for assistant professors to bring multidisciplinary approaches to studying human infectious diseases. The program aims to provide accomplished investigators at the assistant professor level with opportunities to study what happens at the points where the systems of humans and potentially infectious agents connect. The program supports research that sheds light on the fundamentals that affect the outcomes of these encounters: how colonization, infection, commensalism, and other relationships play out at levels ranging from molecular interactions to systemic ones.

PATH is a highly competitive award program that provides $505,000 over five years to study pathogenesis. The program intends to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue new avenues of inquiry, stimulating higher-risk research projects that hold potential for significantly advancing our understanding of how infectious diseases work and how health is maintained.

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth seeks to invest in early career scholars whose research agendas are policy relevant, related to how inequality affects economic growth, and who are interested in engaging with nonacademic audiences.

We are interested in research that will generate actionable insights. American Heart Association Transformational Project Award - ANTICIPATED

Award: $300,000 over 3 years

The AHA Transformational Project Award supports highly innovative, high-impact projects that build on work in progress that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate the field of cardiovascular and stroke research. Successful applications are likely to be those building on strong preliminary data supportive of the hypothesis. This program aims to provide funding that should lead to successful competition for additional funding beyond the award period. The principal investigator (PI) is responsible for clearly and explicitly articulating the project's innovation and the potential impact on cardiovascular and stroke research. While no minimum percent effort is specified, the principal investigator must demonstrate that adequate time will be devoted to ensuring successful completion of the proposed project.

Award: Variable up to $550,000

The Psychosocial Research (PSR) portfolio supports the study of people’s psychological and social wellbeing and research to develop and test interventions that improve an individual’s mental, behavioral, and social welfare following spinal cord injury (SCI). The goal is to build and disseminate solutions that individuals, caregivers, clinicians, and communities can incorporate to address emotional wellbeing and barriers to social engagement. The portfolio seeks to advance meaningful participation of people with lived experience in SCI research design and execution.

Postdoctoral Fellowships: Two-year Postdoctoral Fellowships encourage early-career mentored training to build interest in the field and to encourage researchers from related health disciplines to undertake training in psychosocial research focused on spinal cord injury.

Investigational Grants: Two-year funding that supports research to improve understanding of psychosocial issues and provide insights needed to develop approaches that improve the lives of people affected by spinal cord injury. Studies in this category may involve the development and early testing of an intervention, although this is not a requirement.

Interventional Testing Grants:
Funding for up to three years to support work that leads to the creation, adaptation, and/or refinement of an intervention to address psychosocial challenges for those affected by spinal cord injury. Studies in this category include testing the feasibility, acceptability, and/or initial efficacy of the developed intervention.

Human Frontier Science Program: Life Science Research Grants

Award: Variable based on research team size

HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries. Participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience or physics is recommended because such collaborations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex structures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms, their evolution and interactions. Research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Preliminary results are not required and applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration.

Award: The Arnold Ventures Evidence and Evaluation team has reopened two funding opportunities focusing on casual, policy-focused research

The Cottrell Scholar Award honors and helps to develop outstanding teacher-scholars who are recognized by their scientific communities for the quality and innovation of their research programs and their academic leadership skills. Award: Up to $1,000,000

Over the past decade, a growing body of research has illuminated the conditions that facilitate the use of research evidence in policy and practice. For example, studies find that when research is relevant to decision makers, deliberated over thoughtfully, and embedded in policymaking processes, routines, and tools, the findings are more likely to be used. Still, there remain many unanswered questions that are critical to understanding how to improve the production and use of research evidence. What’s more, there is a scarcity of evidence supporting the notion that research use in policy and practice will necessarily improve youth outcomes. Serious scientific inquiry is needed. We need to know the conditions under which using research evidence improves decision making, policy implementation, service delivery, and, ultimately, youth outcomes. In short, we need research on the use of research.

Toward this end, we seek studies that identify, build, and test strategies to enhance the use of research evidence in ways that benefit youth. We are particularly interested in research on improving the use of research evidence by state and local decision makers, mid-level managers, and intermediaries. Some investigators will focus on the strategies, relationships, and other supports needed for policy and practice organizations to use research more routinely and constructively. Others may investigate structures and incentives within the research community to encourage deep engagement with decision makers. Still other researchers may examine activities that help findings inform policy ideas, shape practice responses, and improve systems.

Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation: Therapeutics Funding Programs

Award: Variable

The ADDF Supports a variety of areas in its Therapeutics Funding area:

  • The Drug Development RFP supports investigational new drug (IND)-enabling studies (or the international equivalent) and early-phase clinical trials that test promising pharmacological interventions and devices for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. This funding opportunity concentrates on diverse drug mechanisms and modes of action related to the biology of aging and other emerging therapeutic areas for dementia.
  • The Neuroimaging and CSF Biomarker Program aims to further develop and validate established biomarkers for which there is a clear clinical need in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This RFP prioritizes biomarkers with a defined context of use, a clear advantage over other relevant biomarkers, and a path to commercialization and/or clinical use.
  • Prevention - The ADDF seeks to support precision prevention studies, combination therapy studies, and comparative effectiveness research that probe whether the use or choice of interventions may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Teagle Foundation: Education for American Civic Life

Award: $100,000-$300,000

This initiative supports efforts to prepare students to become informed and engaged participants in the civic life of their local and national communities. Grants of varying amounts, ranging from $100,000- $300,000 over a 24-36 month period, will be made to each funded project participating in this initiative. The size of the grant will be based on the scope of the project. We expect this grant program will remain open for approximately three to five years.
